Erie Canal

Erie Canal

Just down the road from The Palmyra White House, the man-made Erie Canal was constructed to provide a waterway that connected the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The canal is about 363 miles long stretching from Albany, New York to Buffalo, New York and runs right through the heart of Palmyra. Martin Harris Farm

Martin Harris was a successful farmer and a respected member of the Palmyra community. Mr. Harris was a Mormon convert who played important roles with the translation and publication of The Book of Mormon. Martin was chosen by Joseph Smith Jr, to be one of the three witnesses of the Golden Plates. The Martin Harris Farm is located in Palmyra and sits on the original site. Four Corner Churches

Palmyra, New York is a very unique village when talking about religion. Palmyra was the epitome of early religous freedom with the start of many different religions in the town. The four corner churches are expressed by many as a symbolism of how diverse religion was within the town. E.B. Grandin Press

Egbert Bratt Grandin was a printer located in the village of Palmyra, New York. Joseph Smith Jr. went to Egbert asking him to print the Book Of Mormon. At first Egbert refused to do the job because he doubted the books authenicity but quickly changed his mind and accepted the job. The Grandin Press building located on Main street in Palmyra is the location where Egbert published the first edition of The Book of Mormon. Click the photo for more information.

Peter Whitmer Farm

The Peter Whitmer Farm is located in Fayette, New York. This farm is the location where the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized. On April 6, 1830 after the completion of translating the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith Jr. and about 60 others gathered into Peter Whitmer's Farm home to watch the organization of the church.
